How to Control
This game can be played with up to two people. Please connect the controller(s) to the system's controller connector(s).
* Name and use of each part of the controller
(Clockwise from Top Right)
R button, X button, A button, B button, Y button, Start button, Select Button, Directional Key, L button
* Start button
Game start: Use this when starting a game.
Pause function: If you press this button during the game, you'll pause the screen. Press it once more to clear the pause. (This function is excluded in TIME CHALLENGE.)
Joining mid-game: Use this to have two players battle each other.
* Select button
Right after the player select screen or after the handicap setting screen, if you continue pressing the select button, the screen below will be displayed. Here, you can modify the button placement.
- When changing the player's character and you wish to redistribute the button function according to a particular one, this feature is useful.
* Directional key
Select each mode: When at the title screen, this chooses between game start, battle mode and option mode. (Continued on 3...)

Player movement: Used for the player's left/right movement, jumping, crouching and guarding.
* Y-X-L Button
Press these buttons when punching.

* B-A-R Button

(B button=Weak, A button=Middle, R button=Strong)
*These button controls are based on the default settings. The button settings can be changed within the option mode. (Please refer to page 7 for an explanation of the option mode.)
Without being in a rush, please slowly and deliberately move the power switch between on and off.
Compatible and sold separately:
By using the CPS (Capcom Pad Soldier) fighter controller, the player can control the game more to their expectations, as if playing in the arcade!!
Battle Mode
From the title screen, you can choose from the following 5 modes.
* Super Battle * Versus Battle *Group Battle *Tournament Battle * Time Challenge
* Super Battle
This is the regular mode. Selecting from among 16 players, this game has you attempting to win and advance to the next match.
* Versus Battle
This mode pits two human players against each other. With each bout, characters can be selected and the battle results are displayed. You can also choose the stage and set handicaps. Additionally, the other player can be substituted with the computer.
* Group Battle
Two players do battle within a group-style competition. Both round-robin matches or an elimination tournament are available. The player can choose from 1 to 8 lives. Fights are decided by one round, or can end in a draw. Character selection can be switched from Manual or Automatic using the select button. During match style battles, the amount of previous victories determine when the game is completed. In elimination style, the game continues until your opponent is defeated. Stages and handicaps can be set in this mode as well.
* Tournament Battle
This fighting mode operates within an 8 person elimination framework. The player can choose from 0 to 8 fighters. When there are less than 8 players available for entry, the computer will take control of the remaining players. The computer will select the characters to control, which are randomly entered into the tournament framework. Victories are decided by one round. In the event of a draw, the computer will analyze the winner according to the data from the fight. A character will fight (up to) 3 battles...
* Time Challenge
From 16 characters, fight with and against the character of your choice in a competitive mode that has you seeking to defeat the enemy in the least amount of seconds. The time is measured down to the thousanths of a second. The best time and character used by the record holder will be recorded. (Switching off the power will erase the record. There is no back-up system.)
Controls of the character select screen.
* When outside of the TOURNAMENT BATTLE.
Move the + key up, down, left or right to select a character. Excluding the select button, press a button to decide a character. After everything is decided, you'll proceed to the next screen.
* Within the TOURNAMENT BATTLE
Move the + key up, down, left or right to select a character. Excluding the select button, press a button to decide a character. Either select [End] or select the entire 8 players to finish and proceed to the next screen.
Handicap screen controls
*Versus Battle/Group Battle
Press the select button to move between items. You can press left or right on the + key to select and alter the handicap on a selected item. You can select the stage by pressing Up, Down, Left or Right on the + key. Press the start button to proceed to the next screen.
*Tournament Battle
By moving left or right with the + key, you can change the handicap. Use the start button to proceed to the next screen.
Controls of the GROUP BATTLE mode select screen
Group battle consists of 2 modes, [Match] and [Elimination]. Make your selection by pressing the + key up or down, then press the start button to decide.
* For Matches
Press the + button up, down, left or right to select the amount of lives. Pressing any button outside of start or select will return you to the mode select screen. Press the start button to proceed to the next screen.
* For elimination
Player 1 as well as Player 2 can press the + button up, down, left, or right to select the number of lives. Pressing any buttons outside of select or start will return you to the mode selection screen. Press the start button to advance to the next screen.
* While selecting the amount of lives, with the select button you can choose (MANUAL) to decide the players in the group battle. Choosing (AUTO) will have the computer randomly select them.
Option Mode
While on the title screen, press the + key to choose the option mode. Pressing the start button will lead you to the main option screen. Press up, down, left or right on the + key to change the settings. Pressing the start button once again will return you to the title screen. There are three types of fundamental options: Main, Key Config and Mode Config.
* Main Option
These are the options you'll be able to set from the title screen.
Game Difficulty
While in SUPER BATTLE, you can set the difficulty between 8 different levels.
Time Limit
You can set the time limit from present or non-present.
* When set to non-present, the "Infinity" symbol will be displayed.
Setting the key configuration
For Player 1 or Player 2, the various punch and kick buttons can be distributed to one's liking across the Y, X, L, B, A and R buttons. You can also assign any discretionary buttons to "Do not set". If you set the controls on CPS FIGHTER (A compatible, separately sold controller), the game will configure the button layout identically to the arcade version.
Punch
Strong, Medium, Weak
Kick
* Right after selecting a player, holding the select button will bring you to the button distribution screen. Here, you can also change the key configuration.
* Key Configuration Option
During the character selection screen in SUPER BATTLE and TIME CHALLENGE, or other modes from within the handicap screen, holding the select button will bring you to the key configuration screen. Also, during the VERSUS BATTLE, the player can select both the human and computer characters. Use any button outside of left, right, start or select make confirmations.
* Mode Configuration Option
Outside of the SUPER BATTLE mode, when you're finished with every other mode, use the select button to transfer to the Mode Configuration Option Screen. You can reset the records or remove them from a mode. Pressing the start button will confirm and transfer you to the next screen.
Screen Explanation and Starting a Game
1 - Player One's Score: This is Player One's current point count.
2 - Player Two's Score: This is Player Two's current point count.
3 - High Score: The highest obtained score is displayed here.
4 - Player One's Victory Mark: If Player One wins one round, one mark will be displayed.
5 - Player Two's Victory Mark: If Player Two wins one round, one mark will be displayed.
6 - Player One's Vitality: When Player One receives damage, the meter will be reduced.
7 - Player Two's Vitality: When Player Two receives damage, the meter will be reduced.
8 - Knockout Mark: When anyone's vitality is diminished, this will flash red.
9 - Time: Displays the remaining time. (When set to unlimited, the "Infinity" symbol will be displayed.
When on the title screen, use the + key to choose battle mode. If you press the start button, you'll be transferred to a select screen with various modes. After you've finished with all the settings for each battle mode, the game will begin.
When [Game Start] is displayed on the title screen, you can press left or right on the + key to adjust the game speed (Up to 3 levels above normal).
* Attention: The game speed can not be changed on TIME CHALLENGE.
Game Rules
One round is set to a time limit count of 99 (66 seconds). Matches are spread across three rounds. (From the options, you can also set matches to infinite time).
If you arrive at a final fourth round, it must arrive at an unconditional winner. If a conclusion is not met (WKO, Draw), it will result in a game over.
If a character's vitality is exhausted, they'll lose their ability to regain footing, resulting in a KO decision.
If a winner isn't decided within the time limit, the quantity of remaining vitality between both players will decide the winner. (This is limited to rounds which impose a time limit.)
If you arrive at a draw within TOURNAMENT BATTLE, the computer will judge the contents of the match and declare a winner.

Joining a Game and Continues
* When you want to join a game for a two player battle!
If a SUPER BATTLE has already begun, you can join while it's in progress. While Player One is in the game, Player Two can press the start button on the controller to join in.
* Continuing and Game Overs
During a match decided by three rounds, whoever loses two rounds will get a game over. You'll then go to the continue screen (When playing with two people, the score part is displayed). Before the time reaches 0, you can press the start button to continue. If you press any button outside of start, the continue screen segment will hasten.

This is the initial button layout. At the options, you can change the layout. If you set the controls to CPS FIGHTER (A compatible, sold separately controller), the button layout will be made identical to the arcade.

Weak: Rapid hits are effective
Medium: Between weak and strong
Strong: Big destructive power, however these moves leave many openings to be attacked!
Guard
If you enter back on the + key without attacking, you can guard against the enemy's attack. (However, you will still receive 1/4 of the damage from a special move).
Throw
Throws are performed by simultaneously pressing the + key and a button. However, danger always accompanies such close proximity to your opponent.
Stun
If you're stunned, quickly tap the + key and the attack buttons to recover! Otherwise, this is a wonderful chance for your opponent to have their way with you!

The Path to Becoming a True Fighter
1. Master a perfect guard!
With your sparring opponent performing both upper and lower attacks, if you're not able to respond with the appropriate guards, you'll leave yourself open to big damage! Being especially particular about whether to guard or take the chance to shift and escape attacks, not getting thrown, or having your vitality reduced by regular moves is the foundation of a true warrior!

2. Skillfully Master the Use of Special Moves!
Every player has highly damaging special moves. If these are performed with the right timing, or during the exact proper instant, an attack of remarkable range will be let out. Not (merely) guarding against the opponents' attack, you can return their offense with a more damaging special move. However, since an opening in your defense accompanies the procession of such moves, you must be meticulous with your timing!
